blueseventy Legal for All Masters Events

20 Jun 2009

FINA Press Commission member Pedro Adrega has made it clear that the speedsuit rules delineated in the Dubai Charter are not applicable to Masters Swimming.
FINA met this past March in Dubai to establish specific rules and regulations regarding technical suits in swimming competition - known as the Dubai Charter.  According to the charter, restrictions on design, material, thickness, buoyancy, control, construction and customization would be put in place in a dual phased approach intended to restrict the technology applied in swimsuit manufacturing.
These restrictions do not apply to the Masters Swimming community. Questions of suit legality are nearly a thing of the past for this group of athletes. However, ambiguity still surrounds the ratification of FINA Masters World Records as it pertains to speedsuits worn in those swims.  According to FINA themselves, Masters is free from the tech suit saga.
