blueseventy’s World Ironman Champion takes 4/4

7 Jul 2008

2007 Ironman World Champion Chris McCormack (AUS) broke the course record as he won the 2008 Ironman European Championships in Frankfurt, Germany. blueseventy’s darling Chrissie Wellington (GBR) broke the women’s course record and took another Ironman title. This makes her CV even more impressive with a 4/4 winning/racing strategy. Running out of the water in her helix tst, Chrissie had the fastest women’s swim split with a powerful time of 48.34 and finished in front of second place-getter Nicole Leder with a whopping 26 minute lead!

Macca also showed he is still Number One after his defiant win at Kona lst year. While Normann Stadler pulled out of the race with a virus, Ironman Germany was still a very stacked field. McCormack won yet another mind-game battle with Faris Al-Sultan – who made a suicidal move on the bike that Macca would later label a “rookie mistake.” Macca managed to take on the talented Eneko Llanos, who had the race of his life and still came up just under a minute short of beating the Australian.
And then there was Timo Bracht (another helix wearer) who ran a 2:42 marathon (!) and placed third overall. Cameron Brown put together a 2:46 marathon and an 8:09 over all time – which netted him fourth.
